Size and Placement

Mirror dimensions should match your intended use. Full-length mirrors need at least 48" height to show most of your body; 60-72" is ideal for head-to-toe views. Vanity mirrors work best at 24-36" width for bathroom counters. Measure your wall space and leave 6-12" clearance on each side for visual balance. Arched mirrors add 8-12" to stated height due to the curve.

Frame Style and Material

Metal frames (aluminum, iron) offer durability and modern aesthetics but add 5-15 lbs to weight. Wood frames suit traditional decor but require maintenance in humid bathrooms. Frameless designs maximize reflection area and suit minimalist spaces. Black metal frames hide fingerprints better than brass or gold finishes.

Mirror Quality and Distortion

Look for 5mm glass thickness minimum to prevent warping—thinner mirrors (3-4mm) distort reflections noticeably. Copper-free or silver-backed mirrors resist corrosion in bathrooms for 10+ years versus 3-5 years for standard backing. Check for "HD" or "high-definition" glass, which reduces the greenish tint seen in cheap mirrors.

Mounting and Stability

Leaning mirrors over 50" tall need wall anchors or anti-tip straps for safety, especially with pets or kids. Wall-mounted mirrors require 2-4 D-rings and anchors rated for 2-3x the mirror's weight. Specialty mirrors (360° rotating, self-hair-cutting) need stable flat surfaces and consume 12-18" depth. Freestanding mirrors with weighted bases (15+ lbs) offer flexibility without wall damage.
